Red Bull Salzburg have further extended their lead in the Bundesliga. The defending champions beat SV Mattersburg 2-1 at home on Sunday in an exciting final duel. Jerome Onguene brought the oppressively superior home team into the lead with a spectacular volley goal in the 69th minute. After Marko Kvasina’s (87th) late equalizer, Wolf, who had been without luck several times before, saved his team from losing points and the third consecutive draw in the league after those against Wacker Innsbruck and LASK.

Coach Marco Rose’s team just managed to make it to the Europa League dress rehearsal.  In Trondheim, the Salzburg team will have a chance to make it to the sixteenth-finals in a duel with Rosenborg after their fourth group match. FK Austria Vienna – WAC 2:3 (2:1)

Wiener Austria suffered a severe setback on Sunday. The Viennese had to admit defeat to the WAC with 2:3 (2:1) after two home leads. The Wolfsberger team thus maintained fourth place. The match winner was ex-Austrian Mario Leitgeb, who scored all three WAC goals in standard situations (14th, 84th, 92nd).

Austria was only the better team in the initial phase. But goals from Uros Matic (1.) and Christoph Monschein (17.) were not enough. The Viennese were punished for a blatant relapse. From the past four league games they only got two points. The WAC won their third match against Austria in a row. He is two points behind the second placed LASK and three points ahead of Austria.

SCR Altach – SK Rapid Wien 2:2 (1:2)

Rapid missed their third consecutive compulsory game victory on Sunday. At the end of the 13th round of the Bundesliga, the team from Hütteldorf had to settle for a 2:2 victory at the SCR Altach and are now ranked seventh, two points behind the sixth Austria. The penultimate from the Ländle increased the lead on the Admira to two points.

Rapid took the lead twice by Mario Sonnleitner (9th) and Thomas Murg (42nd), the hosts managed the equalizer thanks to a double pack from Manfred Fischer (32nd, 48th).
